It was another lean spell at the
Pampady Dayara. Even the borrowed money had run out.
Thirumeni would give away liberally whatever was left
without a thought for the morrow. It was November 8th,
1956. People seeking help started trickling in. And
Thirumeni instructed his people not to disappoint anyone
whatever the demand. There was as usual no rice for
lunch and no money to buy any. By noon a post peon came
with a MO for Rs.6. A happy Thirumeni sent back the
beggar and the post peon equally contended. There was no
money left for the morrow. The next day another Money
Order came, the one sent by Eastern citizens' Bank to
have Thirumeni solemnise Holy Qurbana on the occasion of
their 27th anniversary. That sufficed for the seekers of
help on the 9th. Thirumeni felt relieved.
Towards the end of November 1956, Yohannan Semmassan
told Thirumeni, not unusually, that except for some broken
rice for Thirumeni's gruel there was nothing else left.
Unruffled, Thirumeni went in for prayer saying that God
will take care. And He did. Thirumeni came out of the 'madbaha'
after prayers only to be greeted by Chirakuzhiyil
Kunjoonjappan who had brought two mounds (paras) of
rice.

Thirumeni strongly believed that God would take
care and He did care....
Thirumeni's love was not confined to man. Like St.
Francis of Assissi his love for the birds and animals
knew no bounds. He could not stand the cattle being
beaten or dogs being kicked at or stoned. Once when a
boy came to the dayara and Thirumeni asked him, "child do
you stone dogs?" The boy replied, "I do, I like it...."
Thirumeni told the boy: "Remember, the dog will cry and
let its 'master' know of its pain."
Bible Verse: Thirumeni Never Used to worry about
the Next Day
Your father knows what you need before you ask him.
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what
you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body,
what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the
body more than clothing? So do not worry, saying, "What
shall we eat?" or "What shall we wear?" For the pagans
run after all these things, and your heavenly Father
knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and
his righteousness, and all these things will be given to
you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for
tomorrow will worry about itself. Today's trouble is
enough for today. (Matthew 6:8b,25,31-34) |
