In response to the notification of the
Government regarding the establishment of new colleges
in 1980, Baselius Mar Thomas Mathews I, Catholica Bava
applied for one in Pampady respecting the wishes of
people of all caste and creed in and around Pampady. The
application was not entertained during the first year.
But on the strong recommendation of the commission set
up by the university sanction for the college was
granted the next year. Soon a big public meeting was
held under the presidentship of K.S.Narayanan
Namboothiri, Kaithamattom where it was decided
unanimously that it should be named after Pampady
Thirumeni. The people from the locality collected an
amount of Rs. 5 Lakhs and bought sufficient land for the
purpose from Manajpally Ramakrishna Pillai. The land was
registered in the name of Bava Thirumeni. Soon the
church swung into action collecting an amount of Rs. 40
lakhs and put up pucca buildings according to University
specifications, including class rooms, laboratories,
library, office block, canteen etc. The building faces
the sacred tomb of Thirumeni on a neighbouring hill. And
naturally, it keeps recording steady growth in every
respect.

A chapel named after Parumala Thirumeni provides room
for students to join together in common worship or for
private meditation. Fellowship meetings, prayers and
discussions are held on different days every week. Holy
Qurbana and fasting prayers are also held at appropriate
times, especially during lent seasons.
The college was raised to degree level in 1993 and to
post graduate level five years later. Pre-degree (4
groups) , BA, Economics, BSc Chemistry and Physics, B.
Com and M.Com courses are being run here. It has won the
3rd place in MG University and top place in Kottayam
district, result wise.
Prof. Titus Varkey who retired as
Principal has taken the college to great heights with
his dynamic and dedicated leadership. He was more than a
principal to his students and colleagues and a respected
public figure, being an unselfish social activist. His
unique, service was properly acknowledged when an
80-lakh auditorium was inaugurated on the day of the
retirement, with the Management staff, students (old and
present) and the public contributing their mite. To make
good the 40- lakh deficit, O.C. Yohannan Ramban
(Manager) and Prof. Titus Varkey went on a collection
campaign to the Middle East from where an amount of Rs.
15 lakhs was raked up.

Prof. M.C. Joseph had been principal since June 1, 1999
leading a band of 40 teachers and 38 members on the non
teaching staff. More than 400 students now study in
Degree course and PG Courses. Self-financing courses
like BBA too are run here. The construction of the
auditorium in the name of Prof. Titus Varkey who served
as Principal of the College for about 18 years is over.
Now Prof. Jacob Kurian Onattu serves at the Principal.
The college with the benign but unseen influence of
Pampady Thirumeni always around, will surely continue to
make its mark even in the new millennium.

Prof. Jacob
Kurian Onattu (Principal)
