Thanks to Mr. Ommen Chandy (then, the Minister for Labour), an ITC was started in the Nilackal Church Sunday School building in 1976. The ITC named after Mathews Mar Ivanios Paret Metropolitan Thirumeni was a long cherished desire of the Kottayam diocese. But since the government insisted on the institution having a permanent campus with proper buildings it was later shifted to Pothenpuram where it has steadily grown.

Many well wishers from the church helped the institution with generously either by way of contribution or loans. Further an agency in Germany EZ & E contributed an amount of Rs. 20 lakhs for its construction. The ITC now has fully equipped laboratories, class rooms and workshops for the five trades viz Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Plumber. Annual intake if students is 250. A strong team of teaching staff works under the principal K.N.S Panicker.
