I've known him since I was little but then we moved to the US. We visited whenever we came back. He helped build the first school I went to. In my path in life, he had a significant role unknowingly. He's one of the rare few who I respect very much as a truly holy person. It was a shock to hear that he passed away. I hope he'll always look after us just as he did when he was among us. It seems Yohannan Rambachen passed away, at the time when I was
praying the night vigil in Moscow. Somehow I have decided to listen,
after my prayers, a satsong words of late Rev. Francis Acharya, on
the views of the Way of Cross of Mahatma Gandhi, written by
Sarveppilli Dr. Radhakrishnan. The crux of that lesson was: Apart
from Sacraments and Church doctrines, every Christian has to bear the
Cross and follow Jesus Christ. (According to Mahatma Gandhi, his
cross was Ahimsa and Daridraya Narayan Seva) Well, after a few
minutes, I had to be in tears hearing the sad news that our dear
Rambachen is no more!
Although I am not going to be there physically, I will be on my
knees, during this period, to pray for him and his Mission and ask
him to pray for us. I don't know to whom I should tell my
condolences. How can I thank him for saving my physical body, when it
was about to die at Kottayam, with a fatal Meningitis attack? I
called Mr. KM Mathew (Manorama) and told him my condolences. He said, he is equally saddened by his death. However, I jot down these few lines and send it to you.
I join with the children and the volunteers and staff of his own
Orphanage and other Orphanage structures, where he was an accepted as
a real Idayan. Let us pray that they don't get further orphaned.
I counted him as one among those 10 persons, 'the Critical Spiritual
Mass', of the Church or the Society, that is preventing the
destruction, like Sodom Gomorra. Is there any replacement for him?
His unexpected departure is really a loss for me and for my silent
Mission, as I was planning with him, over phone, many projects,
including the publication of the 5th and the last volume of
Philokalia in Kottayam, participating everybody and reaching it
beyond boundaries. He always joined my views on all occasions that
the Philokalia should not be of any Christian community, but it
should be a Spiritual treasure that should be shared by other Indian
religions also. During the publication of the 4th volume, in
Thiruvanandapuram, he urged that Philokalia should be incorporated in
the curriculum of all Christian Seminaries.
At one moment I saw that geography of Rembachen, Sans-Love or 'sneha-
soonyam'!
Then I realized that there is no doubt, our dear Rambachen, the Karma
Yogi, from that small hills of Pothanpuram, together with his
predecessor St. Gregorios of Pampady, will also be absorbed among
those group Saints or Spiritual giants, who could write the lessons
in Philokalia, meditating their whole life at Holy Mount Athos! |

TRIBUTE TO BELOVED RAMBACHEN…..STRAIGHT FROM MY HEART…
The fragrance of myrrh and the sweets which Rambachen always carries with him are one of my earliest and most vivid memories of Rambachen. Right from the time I was a toddler at BMM to date, Rambachen was a great influence on me. As a child, he was to me a Grand fatherly figure doing his routine visits every morning to BMM School, chatting and exchanging pleasantries with all those whom he met on the way, bringing sweets to us in class rooms, cracking jokes to cheer us all. We were looking forward to his visit at school. We were all enthusiastic in wishing him every morning “Good morning Rambachen”, one of the first few words we learned in English. Rambachen would take note of each of our greetings patiently and acknowledge them individually. It was indeed very tiring for him , but he never failed to return a beautiful smile .I remember our teachers scolding us for giving him the trouble of replying to each of us, but we never ceased to do so as we felt a great pride in greeting Rambachen . And that was a habit which I carried all the way from BMM to KG College as a student and even until I became a guest Lecturer at K.G.College. Whenever I saw him around, my hands would be folded to wish him, thanks to my upbringing at BMM.
I saw Rambachen extremely happy when I got first rank in Pre-degree. Rambachen opined that my results belonged to BMM and Pampady Dayara more than to KG College. We at BMM had the great tradition of collecting hall tickets for examinations from Rambachen after the Holy Qurbana at Dayara. Rambachen used to tell us often that Pampady Thirumeni loves students who study well and that was our first incentive to study better. Since then, I have been visiting the tomb of Pampady Thirumeni before each of my examinations and significant decisions in my life. I should owe Rambachen for creating a great bond between me and Pampady Thirumeni.
I am not the right person to elaborate on the larger personality of Rambachen. But I should add that rarely we would come across people like Rambachen in our lives again. When our grandfathers were all fortunate enough to have seen and experienced Pampady Thirumeni, we have been blessed enough to have his great disciple Yohannan Rambachen among us. Whatever endeavors Rambachen initiated, it had all been successful because of the intercession of Pampady Thirumeni. Let his life be a great lesson for each of us and let us make his name eternal by continuing and supporting all the good causes he had stood for.

It's a very painful situation that one of our senior Ramban, left his sole to hevenly father. The departure of Very.Rev. P.C Yohannan Ramban, who made Pampady as one of the top pilgrimage centre in Malankara made a deep gap in everyone’s mind, which cannot be filled by any other person. Rambachan was a spiritual father, a Guru, a preacher, an actual follower of his great teacher - Pampady Thirumeni. Rambachen was very patient to hear to the pains and sufferings of the peoples irrespective of caste, creed and colour and always make them settle in peace mind in return. His views, towards the anti alcoholism movement were appreciated unanimously by all the people. His mode of living in prayer and meditation is a real example for all the priests and theological students, even to common people like us, how to maintain a holy life. Even though Rmbachan is not a highly mastered qualified person, his life taught him how to deal with every situation, moreover, how to find the needy one. The projects started by very Ramban gives us a message that God will find His persons to fullfill the duties left behind Him. The educational, charity,and other organisations created with graceful Ramban give a brightful feeling to all whom coming to the Mount Thabore of Pampady. They will keep Rabachan's name to whole world that two spiritual people, sons of our Holy Father lived here to pray for us in their life and now in their eternity. It's a very painful situation that one of our senior Ramban, left his sole to hevenly father. The departure of Very.Rev. P.C Yohannan Ramban, who made Pampady as one of the top pilgrimage centre in Malankara made a deep gap in everyone’s mind, which cannot be filled by any other person. Rambachan was a spiritual father, a Guru, a preacher, an actual follower of his great teacher - Pampady Thirumeni. Rambachen was very patient to hear to the pains and sufferings of the peoples irrespective of caste, creed and colour and always make them settle in peace mind in return. His views, towards the anti liquor movement were appreciated unanimously by all the people. His mode of living in prayer and meditation is a real example for all the priests and theological students, even to common people like us, how to maintain a holy life. Even though Rmbachan is not a highly mastered qualified person, his life taught him how to deal with every situation, moreover, how to find the needy one. The projects started by very Ramban gives us a message that God will find His persons to fullfill the duties left behind Him. The educational, charity,and other organisations created with graceful Ramban give a brightful feeling to all whom coming to the Mount Thabore of Pampady. They will keep Rabachan's name to whole world that two spiritual people, sons of our Holy Father lived here to pray for us in their life and now in their eternity. I met Rembachan on two occasions and was struck by his devotion, not only to the spiritual life, but his dedication to the Sabha's outreach efforts. Through him, one could see the various dimensions which is our Church--urging her children "to live in the world, but not be of it." I am unfortunate, not even attend the funeral, it is tormenting my mind.Our Rambachen's demise is agreat loss to our Poraloor family. My ammachi is Rambahen's aunt. I have lot of loving and blessed memories of Rambachen.He was my spiritual guide, a real helper in times my spiritual needs.Whenever I visited Dayara, he found time to take me to our familes arround Pampady.I am so proud and thankful of my Rambachen. He was a man of vision,who's life was a continous felloship with God,a real monk with a heart full of love and concerns for mankind.A true monk of this time, worked day and night to fullfil his Master's will according to His will.He was totally commited to a life of prayer and meditation .
When I think about visiting Pothenpuram Dayara without the presence of Rambachen, I
feel some sort of pain in my heart, at the same time I could feel his full spiritual presence.While I am writing these lines I can see the holy,, smiling face of my Rambachen.Rambachen, please continue to to bless all your children of the church, the church you loved so much and served.

We are very shocked to hear the sudden demise of Respected Late. Very Rev. Fr. P.C. Youhannan Ramban, Late. Manager, Mar Kuriakose Dayara, Pothenpuram. Late Rambachan is my Guru to give great privilege to come and join in the Sunday Offerings (Qurbana) in the Dayara Chappal with the help of my Grand Father and also advised me to follow the ethics and principles of Pampady Thirumeni. Hence I joined in the Sunday Offerings at Dayara Chapal when I was in Class-III. Afterwards, very actively I tried to continue my participation in the Offerings and all other functions at Dayara Chapal till leaving from the home and due to the advice and blessings by Late. Rambachan, I could join in a Govt. Service in the Arunachal Pradesh State Government. The loss of Late Rambachan is a loss of Orthdox Church, Organizational Institutions of Orthdox Church located in the Pothenpuram and Pampady etc. Rambachans demise is also particularly a loss of all the loving people of Pothenpuram, Meenadom, Pampady & Kooropada etc and generally in the Orthdox Church Society. Rambachans demise is a very loss to our family as we are closely related since the arrival of Pampady Thirumeni at Pothenpuram.

The life of the Very Rev. P C Yohannan Ramban came to the end in the earth..
The lose of this great monk, who belongs to Indian Orthodox church is not
limited in his premises but to all who loves humanity and peace in Kerala.It
left a blank in their life.
Very Rev. P C Yohannan Ramban, the Manager of Pampady Dayara and all its
institutions like KG College, BMM English Medium School, Mar Ivanious ITC,
Balabhavan(Orphanage home), Abhayabhavan ( old age home),Asha Kiran( the
rehab centre for the children of Aids affected parents, President of anti
alcoholic federation, President of All Kerala Orphanage control board .And
their goes his service which is endless.
The great monk was a living example how a real Christian should be. He
drawed it with his own life. Twelve hours a day was not enough for him. He
changed the sticking plot to knowledge plots (rubber plots to educational
plots).
Born in an ancient orthodox family in Pampady, the same day on which
Yohannan Mamdana was born. His blessings starts from that day onwards. He
considered all what he owned as a waste, as what St.Paul said.
He was a true Christian, who showed how a true Christian should be in his
life. He was simple and humble, loved humanity and peace in his country. He
helped poor people immensely irrespective of their caste and religion, took
care of them. He was there at a call distance, to all who are in need. As
said in Bible, its good to visit a sorrowing family then a happy family, he
did that in his life.
He was an accepted as a real Idayan in his own orphanage. Let them not get
further orphaned. He was a karma yogi, together with his predecessor Pampady
Thirumeni, will be absorbed among those group of spiritual saints,
meditating their life at Holy mount Athos,
He thought against "alcoholism", the spreading cancer of the society, which
destroyed many families and even our society. He spread the gospel to those
family affected by alcohol and helped in their rehabilitation.
The education institutions, both academic and professional, helped the
residents of Pampady, Meenadom and near by villages for better education. It
shows the increase in NRI's in this area.
He was a real missionary, who showed to all that mission activities is not
just converting from other religion, like the modern missionaries, he served
the people who really tasted and believed in god.Late Theodosius Thirumeni
and Yohannan Rambachen showed the world the real missionary work according
to what Jesus taught us. As Jesus said a prophet will be rejected by his own
neighbor, he had faced many allegations in connection with Ashakiran
residents.
His advices and suggestions helped many in their critical situations. One
among them is our ex chief minister and present opposition leader Shri
Oommen Chandy. Rambachen always continued his intercession with Pampady
Thirumeni during many unfavourable events, and was able to overcome with it.
The way how he managed all the institution should be appreciated, even with
basic education from normal village school, He did that perfectly than any
professional. All these institutions stands in its highest in our society.
What all he touches formed to gold. KG College Pampady is an example, which
is one of the best college in MG University as well as in our state. He
believed that all what he achieved was only by the blessings of Pampady
Thirumeni which is always quoted in his speeches "with the blessings and
intercession of Pampady Thirumeni" It was that faith which led him always.
He was able to spread the light, which was given to him by Pampady
Thirumeni, to all in his society, his people and to who ever come against
him.
Rambachen served as a link between our Sabha and various leaders of other
religions, Political leaders, govt. Officials and many community leaders.
I still have the image of Rambachen in his grey colored standard tempo van,
which he used for his travel. It was a multipurpose vehile, used to bring
construction materials, to transport laboures and also to collect funds from
well wishers for KG college construction at initial stage. I was lucky
enough do attend the holy Qurbana led by Rambachen at Pothenpuram Dayara
four weeks ago, but was unable to meet him personally. I didn't realize at
that time, that I will never see him again

To me a great loss.I don't know how to express my sorrows through letters.He is my guru,mender,and the first who encouraged me to the service of my lord.Being at California,USA,I am quite unfortunate,not even attend the funeral.Departure as well as distance really tormenting my mind.When I heard about Rembachen's death,that he was seeming to be dead, in his bed at very morning,exactly at the time of morning prayer,my mind goes to the very word that "the death of the righteous is just like a sleep" and suerly he will see the "face of god" when he wake up from sleep.Just like pampady thirumeni Remachen might be entered to the eternal peace at the time of 3.20am.It is heard that no one was beside him, at the time of his death,but I have no doubt that all saints ,specially pampady thirumeni,Paret mar Ivaniose thirumeni, Mar Athanasiose thiumeni(Bethacy) and number of grant parents(departed) from Pampady , Meenadom,Kooroppada and other neibouring places of pampdy dayara, be suerly with him at the time of his farewell to this world. That is why he was semming to be sleeping with closed eyes and no agonies of death in his face!Because all these above mentioned fathers and number of ordinary people received the last thesmestha from Rembachen.Ofcourse he was a man, very unique, in his personality."The lines are fallen unto him in pleasant places;yea, he has a goodly heritage".(psalm 16:6) |

Demise of V. Rev P.C. Yohannan Ramban,
A great loss to the Holy church and the State.
It is worth to think why so many people of our state, living across the globe, irrespective of religion and denominations are literally shocked listening to the sad and sudden demise of V. Rev. P.C. Yohannan at a quite unexpected time. Why many are really bereaved on the demise of a Monk? The Christians are supposed to live as Christ, upholding His teachings and strictly following His simple but great style of life. But how many could achieve the real title of a genuine follower of Christ? We all might claim that so and so is our role model. But could we follow the life of our role models? Late Lamented P.C. Yohannan Ramban also had a role model. It was his master, guru, guide and the spiritual father, the Saintly Pampady Thirumeni, with whom he was blessed to be a disciple and a beloved spiritual son for about 16 years. During these 16 years he learned his master and started living like his role model. And he succeeded in living exactly like his role model. What Pampady Thirumeni did in his life, were continued without a minute change to the left or right. If someone else was trying to be a follower of Pampady Thirumeni, he must have tried to be another Pampady Thirumeni in the absence of the original Saint. But Rambachen lived his own life with the feeling that “he must grow and I should not grow more than him”. How many disciples could say or think like that? There lies the uniqueness of the habit of Rambachen. He never wanted to do something as his own. Though he did not mention on every occasion that he was doing the same for the sake of Pampady Thirumeni, he was actually doing so. He was so committed, humble, trustworthy, sincere and honest to his master. He always longed to live a true Christian life of principles and values only and never longed for positions and acceptance. He always kept aloof from recognitions and appreciations. He was a man of prayer and meditation. He celebrated all the sacraments with true spirituality. He was very active and energetic. No body has seen him in an angry mood. He was soft and loving. He knew what he was. He was desirous to introduce the Saint as much as he could. Wherever he went, he was particular to say a few words about the Saint of Pampady.
Rambachen who has completed 50 years’ service as a priest on 26th Jan 08 and 25 years as a monk on 19th March 08, never pretended in his life, though he was one of the well known Senior Priests and Rambans in the Church. Many significant positions came in search of him from the Church as well as certain social and non-governmental organizations. Until the previous evening of his demise he ran literally from the top of a hill to the other and the vice versa to care and cater the educational institutions of various grades and the orphanages and the old age homes under his direct control. When he was there in the Dayara, he was so particular to receive the visitors of different walks of life. He used to take the faithful to the tomb of the saint and to lead the prayers after learning the special needs if any. The people who might have met him once will not forget him. And all such would speak out about their pleasant and pleasing experiences with him. I knew him from the early days of his arrival at the Dayara, when I was a middle school boy. So everyone could imagine how this demise might have shocked many like me. When I visited Pampady Dayara in December 07, I met him near the BMM School where he was supervising the construction of a parade ground for the Assembly of the School children. He told me after a few minutes’ conversation, “if I come with you to Dayara, this work will not get finished. And I want to get it finished today itself. If you insist I will come with you.” As I told we could manage ourselves, he stayed back. But when we came back, he was waiting on the main road to ask us whether we had our lunch. It was difficult for us to make him believe that we had our lunch from the town. He was insisting to have food from Dayara and volunteering to come with us back to Dayara. He presented me and my wife two books of devotion as gift and promised to continue his prayers for us. All who have visited the Dayara must have enjoyed the same type of cold hospitality enjoyed from Pampady Thirumeni after the Saint’s demise from Rambachen. Rambachen was gifted to listen to the pains and sufferings of many irrespective of caste, creed and color patiently and to make them return with great satisfaction and peace. From the early stage he was trustworthy in handling the finance and he did not spend a single paisa for personal needs or needs of selfish motives. He has proved and showed us how to live a true Christian life, following a great role model. Let us pray for the rest in peace of the departed soul of Rambachen in the laps of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and in the company of all saints especially St. Gregorios of Pampady. By placing a wreath of tears, I conclude this. Let his intercession be a blessing for one and all.

Today I got a Call from my Dad (Kunjujukutty Pampadykandathil) that Rambachan has left the world. He passed away. It was a heart attack. It is a big loss to our community and very big shock and loss for myself. Just 1 month before I talked to Rambachan over phone and he was very happy. After getting this shocking news I immediately called Dayara & they confirmed the departure of the holy soul. Just yesterday or before he Rambachan bought one new car also. He was very happy till going to sleep.
Today I want to share one thing with the world, I am here in Saudi Arabia because of his prayers & blessing. Before leaving for Saudi Arabia I went to Rambachan and asked him for any memorable thing of Pampady Thirumeni (Who I believe very much), he searched all over the place and give me a piece of cloth which was weared by Thirumeni. Till Today that piece is with me and will remain with me till my death.
When I talked to Rambachan over phone I confirmed him that I am comming in December 2008 and will meet him also.
I was also planning to invite him as a chief guest for my marriage, but unfortunately now it is a dream for me. But I am sure that I will be blessed by his soul.
I dont have words to express my condollences towards his sad demise. Not even me No body can express.
I pray to almighty God to give peace to his soul.
